The reason I kind of fell for the quote is that I can’t really make up my mind on whether or not to agree with it… It touches upon the idea of anonymity in city life, versus the lack of it in village life. On the other hand, try to become world known while staying put in the village…
It furthermore touches upon the perception of the city as the place for knowledge expertise, leaving the ‘simple life’ to the rural areas… But can we safely say that rural life is without ambition? Hardly. Today, I’m finishing a book chapter about how certain groups of creative individuals often use the rural setting for large part of the production phase, only to use the city as the market place. Competent and creative activity on the country side is however mostly hidden from statistics, explaining why we don’t know about it…
